Historically when did music start to go downhill?
I believe Psychedelic music killed good music by using drugs to do music because I loved the Motown sound in the mid 1960's but I think music went downhill after 1970 and later when Disco came cause it led to a backlash because of the overexposure of the genre and music!Also Disco watered down the powerful soul music!
I agree with you David ! Since the music moguls reduced music to a solely money making machine in the late 70s everything has gone downhill. The majority of recordings ( and a lot of 'live' )performances are doctored through electronics and no longer have soul. The singers sound as though they are singing through a drain pipe.
It is interesting that even with all the excellent modern sound systems, no-one knows how the instruments should sound because they are all produced using an electronic source so you could use a cheap unit and get the same effect. I remember a professional musician saying Tone is not achieved by twiddling a knob.! The more electronics - the less feeling and soul.
But - Have you noticed a lone saxophone creeping in and drum machines are disappearing ! There may be hope yet.
