Why doesn't my garden tractor fireup?
My tractor is a Jacobson, those riding garden tractors, and it has a 16HP Kohler engine on it. Now, I am trying to start my tractor and it won't start. I checked spark plug, it's fine. I checked gas and oil, it's fine. The starter works properly. The tractor starts, but doesn't fire up. When i was starting it, i think too much fumes was collecting inside the engine, and the muffler gave a huge BOOOOOM!!! As if there was a huge gun inside the exhaust. What's going on?!?!? Again there is a spark. The fuel line is on, and there is fuel in the tank. The battery is fully charged. PLEASE help me!!!! Do I have to spend $2500 on an new piece of equipment????
Your engine is flooding (too much fuel) The excess gas gets in the exhaust system and is ignited which causes the explosion. Get a new spark plug for starters. If it doesn't run then and continues to flood you probably have a stuck needle valve in the carbruator. You can try tapping on the carb (not to hard) with a wrench to free the valve but most likely the carb should be cleaned out. I like to run a little "Seafoam" cleaner and gas stabilizer in my fuel to prevent this from happening. Good Luck
