problem starting my garden tractor?
have a new problem starting my 12.5 briggs and stratton garden tractor was doing some work on my garden tractor that i had to remove starter well i dropped starter and i broke the plastic end off of it replace with new starter sping kit and new clutch reinstalled starter now the starter gear stops right before flywheel and will kick down and starter spring kit is put on right has the type that has the roll pin i take the starter of and gear will travel the full length of the spring kit i installed tested with a booster pack and tried to move flywheel and it does move without much force so i know the engine is good looking for possible causes why starter is doing this
It sounds like the starter is not lining up to throw the gear all the way up into the flywheel .
Is the starter correctly spaced to properly engage ?
Starter alignment is crucial it may bind up or just will not engage but spin.
A nick on the shaft can also stop the gear from traveling up enough as well .
