How can I solve my Draughty fireplace problem !?
I bought a new place early this and my fireplace in the lounge is extremely draughty. There is a large Living Flame gas fire fitted in it (wrought iron arch Victorian design - not original). But there is a terrible draught coming down the chimney and the wind howls down it ?
Any ideas how I can cure this problem ? Ideas Please ?
I want to take it out as I want a smaller modern one but have been told this is a very big and expensive job. So ideas please ?
Do you use the fire often or is it more decorative?
We have a big gas flame fire in our living room and I found a company called Chimney Balloon which may help.
It's a big, clear plastic balloon which you put up your chimney and inflate. it has two tiny gaps as air needs to circulate, but it prevents those whacking great gusts of wind hurtling down the chimney. You'll need to deflate the balloon if you wish to use your fire though, although it does melt harmlessly if you forget!
Mail order takes about 4 days and P&P is free. You can ask them about sizing and they are really helpful.
