========great dane============?
i wantted to know... how much does great dane eats in a month. i just want to see that i can afford it or not
( puppyhood and adulthood )
Jenn answered it well. You need to feed your dog quality food, not junk. That's particularly true for the Great Dane for a variety of health related reasons, mostly joint-related. With chew toys, food, heartworm preventative and treats, I spend at least $100/month on mine. That doesn't include vaccinations or teeth cleanings ($300+ each time).
Additionally, large dogs often have problems on a grand scale which are expensive to fix. Mine had to have her ACL repaired which cost $2,000, not including x-rays.
And the biggest kicker is, Great Dane puppies can be HUGE but are still puppies. So if you're not experienced in how to train one, or how to house one, it could do some costly damage to your belongings..... mistake your sofa for a chew toy, claw holes through your walls trying to get out, eat your carpet, gnaw your doorknobs off, etc.
All of these issues is why there are so many Great Danes in rescues. People often get them as puppies, are overwhelmed with the cost and destruction and then dump them. If you want to see an example of what happens to them, go here: http://www.thetimestribune.com/local/local_story_100101307.html
I've worked with a Great Dane rescue. Many foster home are Dane lovers who also are behavioralists. After spending time learning how to socialize, many Danes are well-adjusted to be adopted. I'd look at your local rescue if I were you before deciding on a puppy. I love the breed but wouldn't have a puppy. I've seen too much devastation. And it's the middle-aged ones who are mellow, who need homes more than the puppies.
