we have signed a contract for gardening work but decided against it - do we have the right to cancel?
We signed a contract for work to our garden 9 days ago and the contractor is already messing us about with regard to samples and pricing. We would like to cancel but is there a legal cooling off period?
It definitely depends on what is written in the contract.
If it says that both parties commit to following it through no matter what, you probably should not cancel it.
Does the contract name a penalty or punishment for either parties for leaving the contract? If it does you should do what it says. But if both of you agree the job will not be done, you should be okay.
If the gardener has invested time in your arrangement, I would not be surprised if they want some kind of compensation for the effort they put into the job. If you simply pay them some nominal compensation this story could easily end with a happy ending.
