How can I tell if the fuel pump is going bad?
I drive a 1999 Ford escort se and for about the last 6wks my car has been coughing and jerking as though the fuel pump might be bad...I replaced the fuel filter hoping this would fix the problem but it continues...Could there be another problem going on that I can check? Wouldn't a fuel pump have gone out by now?
Given the yr. of the car, a complete tune up is def. needed. The fuel injectors may be clogged or going bad. Check around, some shops may do what is know as a fuel system flush, usually in expensive. Check for specials in your area. It could also be caused by your catalytic converter being clogged. Which is another in expensive repair given your area? Hope this helps
