Most Successful Method For Growing An Angel Trumpet Plant
The Angel Trumpet, which has many species, is commonly referred to as the Angel Star and Brugmansia. The trumpet has many branches that develop from its main trunk giving it a shrub-like quality. The leaves of the plant have a look similar to almonds. The leaves reach a length of ten inches long and six inches wide.
The flower of the plant grows to a foot in length, and takes on a shape similar to a trumpet. One look at these flowers and you'll know exactly where they got their name. The colors of the flowers range from yellow to peach and point downward.
In the rain forests of Brazil and South America the plant blooms naturally. It is a popular houseplant and part of many home décor. They are durable plants and can grow in North America. Central and South Florida is where the Angel Trumpet grows best due to the tropical weather conditions.
The angel trumpet is frequently grown from seeds, but cuttings and saplings are also methods used to get a new plant growing. It is important after taken a cutting to get it planted in its new medium immediately. The longer the delay getting it replanted the less likely the cutting will survive.
If you enjoy pleasant fragrance wafting throughout evening air, the angel trumpet is a must have. Keep in mind the sweet aroma experienced during the evening fads upon sunrise. The flowers are pleasing to the eye and can be the showpiece of your garden. Given proper care and attention, the plant attractive feature will reproduce year-round.
Keeping the plant healthy and strong is job number one. Water is critical to the proper health and development of the plant. When grown in a container it generally can handle drenching of the roots. As with all potted plants good drainage at the bottom is a necessity.
The angel trumpet is from the rain forests of South America and can survive climate conditions other flowering plants cannot. It can be grown in the center of a large lawn or grouped together with other shrubs and bushes. Regardless of where you plant it, the drooping flowers, pleasant fragrance and eye-catching foliage are sure to please.

Is it insane to plant a poisonous Angel’s trumpet (Brugmansia x candida) tree?
Do you have a Brugmansia x candida (Angel’s trumpet) tree or are you an expert? Its high toxicity worries me. I'd love to plant one next to our ground floor porch in a yard of a small apartment building. (We are the only family here with young children, but they are all old enough to avoid eating parts of the tree. ) Is any less poisonous Angel's Trumpet being developed ?
Thanks to all of you for answering!
I discovered several of these beautiful trees beside a public path on a university campus. I googled a description to learn more and discovered the poison aspect.
Lollipop, I agree with your ethical stance.
RScott, you are obviously an asset to this site. If you have experience or additional thoughts to share regarding this unusual tree, I'd be interested to know. Thanks.
I removed an angel's trumpet from my yard several years ago. The previous owner was into exotic plants. While I find the plant interesting, I don't think it is worth the potential for trouble. Younger children may move into your area. Your children may have guest who don't understand the dangers. Teenagers (even some adults with fried brains) may steal it to make tea. Peoples pets may eat leaves from it. Shop around. There are hundreds of exotic looking plants that aren't harmful. I like a lot of the rarer gingers.
