how do I tighten idler belt on my truck?

I can only imagine that it has an automatic tensioner and can't be adjusted. The problem could be a worn belt or a belt that has become very dry. I would replace it with a quality belt(Dayco, Gates, Gatorback, etc) and see if that solves the problem. Also you can check that the tensioner is working be pressing the belt. While the belt is off, you may want to spin all of the pulleys to make sure the noise is not coming from any of them. I hope this helps.
