Tree Problems!?

I have what I think is a flowering crab apple tree or some other flowering variation. I planted it last season and it had flowers and this year it has buds but they never opened. The other tree is a rapid growing austree. I planted it at the beginning of this season. It has green leafy branches at the bottom of the trunk up to about 1 foot high, the trunk is green is that section but the next 5 feet up in the tree the trunk is a orange/red color and none of the branches have sprouted leaves. Any ideas on these trees?? Thanks

It sounds like the austree died back. maybe due to not enough water. they need water summer and winter. These trees are said to grow VERY fast and so all that growth needs adequate water and nutrients. Or it might be winter injury/freeze.

They might replace it. their return policy is said to be rather liberal.

the crabapple may have experienced a shortage of water too. sometimes blooming plants do not open their buds due to drought. i think this happened to a lot of plants this year maybe. next time try soaking it a day or two with a slow running hose.

also certain disease(s) can stop buds from opening.
